I am directed by the Lords

Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury

to request you to inform Secretary Sir

Philip Cunliffe-Lister that The ir

attention has again been drawn to the

question of remittances to and from

Hong Kong, which formed the subject of

correspondence ending with Colonial offic

letter 18783/24 of the 24th April 1924.

Recent correspondence on this

subject between the Financial Adviser to

the China Command and the Treasury Chest

officer, Hong Kong and a statement of

their monthly transactions of the Treasury

Cheat at Hong Kong for the last 5 years

have been communicated to your Department

and were discussed semi-officially on the

5th instant.

From that summary, it will be

seen that (apart from Army receipts and

payments) in recent years the Treasury

Cheat has had to raise Hong Kong dollars

to the value of between £600,000 and

£800,000 a year for the needs of the Navy

and Air Force. My Lords understand that

homeward remittances by the Hong Kong

Government during a corresponding period
